<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear mechanism capable of stably rotating a rotating target while suppressing a high increase in apparatus cost, and also, suppressing the breakage of gear teeth, and to provide an image forming apparatus using the gear mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The gear mechanism 1 is configured to include: a driving gear 2 which is driven by a driving motor M to rotationally drive; a pair of idle gears 3 having the same number of teeth, and engaging with the driving gear 2; and one target gear 4 which engages with the pair of idle gears 3 to transmit the rotation to a target object 5.
