PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure wherein an electrode shaft generates no unpleasant sound by vibrating when lighting a discharge lamp, its bonded portion to the metal foil is not peeled off by vibration, or the electrode shaft is not bent or broken, in the high-pressure discharge lamp wherein the electrode shaft of an electrode is bonded to the metal foil and sealed in a sealing part, and a plurality of axial grooves are formed on the peripheral surface of the electrode shaft portion in the sealing part. SOLUTION: Among the plurality of the grooves on the electrode shaft, some of the grooves are formed wider at the same depth from the crests in comparison with the other grooves.
