PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a workpiece supporting apparatus for machine tool, capable of attaining more size reduction of a machine tool without degrading processing precision. SOLUTION: The workpiece supporting apparatuses L, R support each of both ends or proximity of both the ends of a substantially cylindrical workpiece W with supporting means LC, LR and is structured so that the workpiece W is rotatable around a reference axis STZ passing through the center of the supporting position. The workpiece supporting devices L, R are mounted in a pair and at least one of the workpiece supporting devices L, R is reciprocatable in a reference axis STZ direction along a plurality of guides LG, and the plurality of guides LG are mounted along the reference axis STZ direction on each of two faces (MV, MH) provided to be parallel to the reference axis STZ and orthogonal to each other.
