<p>Thermoplastic compsn. contains (a) a highly crystalline polyester with mol. wt. above 5000, (b) a completely satd. polymeric elastomer pref. in an amt. 5-20%, and (c) a silica viscosity modifier pref. in an amt. 1-5%. The compsn. can be shaped manually at 55 deg.C. At 55 deg.C it is transparent and extensible; at lower temp. it is rigid and white. It has high elastic memory and on warming, e.g. in water, recovers the original form. It is odourless, non-irritant to skin, and not attacked by ultraviolet rays or liqs., e.g. oils. It can be laminated to foam. It has 2% shrinkage, giving close contact on, e.g. round articles. Useful as prototypes; splints to replace plaster in orthopaedics; instructional materials; coatingsand protective materials; anti-moisture protection for cables, wood and textiles; components, e.g. for polyester boats and surfboards; and hobby materials.Fl.</p> |
