Novel substituted 2-(4-pyridyloxyphenoxy)ethyl carbamates of the formula <IMAGE> in which R1 is hydrogen, <IMAGE> R2 is C1-C6-alkyl or alkoxyalkyl having a total of 3 to 5 carbon atoms, R3 is halogen or a halogen-substituted C1-C2-alkyl and n is a number 0, 1 or 2, processes for the preparation of these compounds, and agents containing them for controlling insects and representatives of the order of the Acarina. The novel compounds are distinguished by an ovicidal and larvicidal action, in particular against insects which are harmful to plants.
