PURPOSE:To obtain a rapid-start fluorescent lamp having a stable starting characteristic by forming a tin oxide film containing a small quantity of antimony on the inner surface of the glass tube and forming an antimony oxide film on said film in a stream of nitrogen. CONSTITUTION:A glass tube for a fluorescent lamp is heated in an oxidizing atmosphere to form a tin oxide film containing a small quantity of anitmony (Tin oxide is a conductive metal oxide.) on the inner surface of the tube. Next, the tube obtained body is further heated in a stream of nitrogen to form an antimony oxide film (Antimony oxide is a dielectric substance.) on the surface of the tin oxide film. As a result, the concentration of tin in the first conductive film is decreased and the formation of dark brown belt-like spots is prevented thereby forming a transparent conductive film having a small resistance. An insulating protective film of minute alumina particles or similar material is formed on the transparent film as necessary. By the means mentioned above, an energy-saving rapid-start fluorescent lamp having an improved starting characteristic is obtained. |
