The dishwasher has a washing chamber (20) and a tank for collecting contaminated washing water. A cleaning device is arranged in a region of the tank and comprised of screens (100, 200) of different mesh widths. One of the screens with lowest mesh width is designed and arranged, so that the washing water to be cleaned from a remaining-region (360) in a filtrate region is reached through a screen cloth of the screen with the lowest mesh width or through an aperture (320) in preset height (H) of the screen when the water in the remaining-region exceeds a preset level.
