PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device for a vehicle capable of displaying a mirror image by discriminating so as not to erroneously recognize the mirror image as an actual video image when the mirror image is displayed. SOLUTION: The image display device for a vehicle incldues: an imaging unit which includes a plurality of cameras and can photograph the surroundings of the vehicle; a bird's-eye image generating unit for generating a bird's-eye image of the vehicle; a first image generating unit which processes images photographed by the plurality of cameras to produce a background image of the vehicle, and outputs a first image obtained by combining the background image and the bird's eye image; a second image generating unit for forming an image by making the first image plane-symmetrical while defining, as a reference, a plane which is near the background image of a rear part or a front part of the vehicle, vertical to an advancing direction of the vehicle itself and vertical to the ground, and for generating a second image from which the plane-symmetry is identifiable; an image combining unit for selectively combining the first image and the second image; and a display unit capable of displaying an output image from the image combining unit.
