The method involves by comparing and/or merging environmental characteristics, which are detected by cameras (2.1- 2.4), of a surrounding area of a vehicle. A momentary state of one of the cameras are detected and monitored in dependence of result of the comparison and/or merging of the characteristics. Image data detected from the cameras are adjusted in dependence of condition of the cameras. Position and/or orientation of the cameras is adjusted with adjustment of sensitivity, contrast, edge and position of the cameras. An independent claim is also included for an image capturing device for a vehicle.
