The invention relates to a method for adjusting a motor-driven control element (20), particularly of a motor vehicle, and a corresponding adjusting device (19). For this purpose, the course of an operating parameter (3) characterizing the load of the engine (22) is detected as a function of the control parameter (1) characterizing the actuating travel (s), wherein a check of the course (5) of the operating parameter (3) is carried out for the presence of a jamming incidence in that a measurement value of the operating parameter (3) is compared to a predetermined activation threshold value (9), and the engine (22) is stopped and/or driven in reverse if the activation threshold value (9) is exceeded, or no longer met, by the measurement value of the operating parameter (3).
