PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance cleaning effect by preventing cleaning unevenness on a rising slope surface of a vehicle body and favorably improving followability of an upper surface brush for the rising slope surface in a portal car washing machine for washing a vehicle body upper surface of a vehicle with high height by using the upper surface brush swingably provided on a portal car washing machine body travelling for a washed vehicle. SOLUTION: When a solenoid on/off valve is on, an upper surface brush 16 is forcibly moved up without being brought into contact with a surface of the vehicle body. When the solenoid on/off valve is off, the upper surface brush 16 is moved down by its own weight. The on/off valve is controlled to be on and off intermittently by a predetermined interval, so that the upper surface brush 16 is moved up to follow the rising slope surface of the vehicle body upper surface so as to clean the rising slope surface.
