PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid electrolytic capacitor which has high electrostatic capacity and low ESR and also has more superior electric characteristics and heat resistance, and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: (1) This invention relates to the solid electrolytic capacitor that includes as a solid electrolyte a polymer obtained by polymerizing a compound which is a thiophene derivative having a heteroatom-containing cyclic substituent group and has an alkyl substituent at the heteroatom-containing cyclic substituent group. (2) This invention also relates to the method of manufacturing the solid electrolytic capacitor that includes a step of forming the high polymer described in (1) on a valve action metal having a dielectric oxide film formed.
