PURPOSE:To provide an adhesive for a wooden material which does not necessitate complicated processing and can eliminate the problem with respect to the adhesion to a metallic material and which comprises a water-soluble or water-dispersible resin and a particular polyoxyalkylene phosphate ester. CONSTITUTION:An adhesive comprising a water-soluble and/or water-dispersible resin (a) and at least one member (b) selected from among a phosphate ester of a polyoxyalkylene monoalkyl ether having an HLB value of 6 ore more, a phosphate ester of a polyoxyalkylene monoalkylaryl ether having an HLB value of 6 or more and a phosphate ester of a polyoxyalkylene monoaliph. acid ester having an HLB value of 6 or more. A formaldehyde resin is pref. because it exhibits excellent adhesion to a wooden adherend, profitability, workability, etc. The term 'water-dispersible resin' is intended to mean a dispersion, an aq. latex, or an aq. emulsion of a formaldehyde condensation polymer resin in a dispersing medium composed of water.
