PURPOSE:To provide fine hexagonal ferrite particles having a specified compsn., a specified particle shape and superior magnetic characteristics, especially high saturation magnetization and suitable for high density magnetic recording. CONSTITUTION:The titled fine hexagonal ferrite particles have a compsn. represented by a general formula MO.(n/6)(Fe12-2xT2xO18) (where M is one or more kinds of metallic elements selected among Ba, Sr and Pb; T is Co-Ti, Co-Ge, Co-Sb, Co-Ta, Zn-Nb, Zn-V, Zn-Ge or In; x=0-1.1; and n=5.2-7.5). The particles have >=50emu/g saturation magnetization sigmas, 0.02-0.5mum average particle size and a flat shape. The flat shape of >=50% of all the particles are nongeometrically hexagonal.
