PURPOSE:To provide the title chemical modifier which can impart magnetic characters to org. or inorg. catalytic materials or physiological active materials and can be stably dispersed in an aq. soln. or org. solvents, by bonding a magnetic material to polyethylene glycol (derivative). CONSTITUTION:A magnetic material (e.g., ferrite) is reacted with polyethylene glycol having an MW of 500-20,000 or its ester, ether, acid amide, amino or carboxylic acid derivative in water or an org. solvent in a dispersing device such as a ball mill for 10 days to obtain a magnetic chemical modifier composed of a magnetic material/polyethylene glycol (derivative) composite material.
