PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preserving excavated artifacts in the known method of using a higher alcohol, where cultural artifacts can be preserved over long period of time without affected by moisture or the like even in normal temperature conditions. SOLUTION: This method comprises a step 1 of immersing the excavated cultural artifacts in a water-soluble solvent comprising a 1-4C linear or branched alcohol so as to replace the impregnated water in the cultural artifacts with the water-soluble solvent; a step 2 of immersing the cultural artifacts impregnated with the water-soluble solvent in a hardly water-soluble solvent comprising a higher alcohol composition consisting mainly of a saturated alcohol having 50-70°C melting point so as to replace the water-soluble solvent impregnated in the cultural artifacts with the hardly water-soluble solvent; and a step 3 of solidifying the cultural artifacts impregnated with the hardly water-soluble solvent.
