Method for controlling the engine in a motor vehicle comprises limiting the adaptation of the geometry of the turbine by the engine depending on the possible mass flow if required. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a vehicle engine. Preferred Features: The limitation of the adaptation of the geometry of the turbine occurs on evaluation of a turbine engine map. A limiting value is deviated based on the evaluation of the engine map.
