PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphor which shows good light emission over the whole visible light region (wavelengths of about 450 to about 850 nm). SOLUTION: The phosphor contains Sn (tin), and Ce (cerium) and/or Gd (gadolinium) as additive elements and uses SrGa<SB>2</SB>S<SB>4</SB>(strontium thiogallate) as a base material.
