<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phototherapy apparatus which is safe and does not cause a burn or the like even when the amount of energy is increased. <P>SOLUTION: The phototherapy apparatus 11 comprises a therapeutic light source 12, a biological signal detecting section 14 for detecting a signal of a living body, a therapeutic light irradiating section 15 that irradiates a living body with therapeutic light from the therapeutic light source 12, and a control section 13 for controlling the therapeutic light source 12 in accordance with an input signal from the biological signal detecting section 14. The phototherapy apparatus detects a signal of a living body and controls the output or irradiation time of therapeutic light 16 so that irradiation of the therapeutic light synchronizes with a biological condition wherein the blood flow is small and effective therapeutic effect is achieved.
