Provided is a fuel cell system including: a fuel cell which generates electricity by an electrochemical reaction between an oxidant gas supplied into an oxidant gas flow channel and a fuel gas supplied into a fuel gas flow channel; and a control unit which adjusts the amount of the oxidant gas supplied to the fuel cell and the voltage of the fuel cell. The control unit has a closing degree determination means which determines the closing degree of the oxidant gas flow channel in accordance with the stoic ratio of the oxidant gas and the voltage of the fuel cell during a low-efficiency operation which reduces the stoic ratio of the oxidant gas to be smaller than the stoic ratio of the oxidant gas during a normal operation and increases the heat discharge from the fuel cell to be greater than during the normal operation. This improves stability of the low-efficiency operation of the fuel cell system. |
