The device (2) has a combined braking and tail lamp i.e. red LED (25), a license plate lamp i.e. white LED (29), and a port (19), where the port receives a pulse width modulated signal emitted by a control unit. A decoding device (22) decodes the signal for switching-on and off the red and white LEDs. A voltage controller (20) is provided for the LEDs. The control unit (1) is connected to the device via two electrical connections, where the signal is transferred via one of the connections i.e. single-wired cable, and the other connection is a ground connection of a motor vehicle.
