An audio device (for example, an AV amplifier) has multiple audio output terminals, such as HDMI-standard terminals, and converts audio data of a source device to an audio signal suited for audio playback capabilities (number of channels) of multiple sink devices, and outputs the audio signal. The audio device has, stored therein, a prescribed number of channels configured by itself, and multiple pieces of audio-playback-capability information that describe the number of channels the sink devices have, and provides, to the source device, pieces of audio-playback-capability information excluding the audio-playback-capability information of a sink device having the least number of channels, from among those audio-playback-capability information. For sink devices having a number of channels less than the number of channels of the audio signal of the source device, downmixing is conducted to the audio signal of the source devices according to the number of channels indicated by the audio playing-back capability information of those devices, and supplied to those devices, and for sink devices having a number of channels more than the number of channels of the audio signal of the source device, signal processing is conducted to the audio signal of the source device according to the number of channels indicated by the audio playing-back capability information of those devices, and supplied to those devices. |
