The device (32) has a shift rod (9) comprising two shift gates (8), which cooperate with shift fingers (4). The shift fingers are coupled with a shift lever (2) by a section (35) of an effective connection (33), where the section is guided towards the shift lever. The shift gates are arranged at a distance from each other. The shift fingers are engaged for insertion of gears into the shift gates and axially adjust the shift rod in two directions, respectively. The fingers are integrally formed at a dual shift finger and lie in a plane. A longitudinal middle axis of the rod lies in the plane.
