<p>A method and system for managing the output port queue of a network processor are disclosed by the present invention. An Access Control List (ACL) rule is utilized in a Traffic Management (TM) micro-engine to realize the local blocking for data packets, and the congestion can be effectively avoided by blocking the low-priority data packets; meanwhile, if the Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED) algorithm is adopted in the TM micro-engine, a better congestion control can be acquired. In the case of resource shortage, the strategy, which ensures the transmission of the high-priority packets and the discard of the low-priority packets, can avoid the discard of the high-priority packets when the WRED discard is performed.</p> |
