PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission capable of reducing fixing portions for a filter case, while securing sealability between a transmission case and the filter case. SOLUTION: This automatic transmission includes the filter case 50 attached to the transmission case, and the transmission case includes a recess (recess 88c for a filter) communicated with at least an oil flow-in port 60 or an oil flow-out port 61 in an inside, and an overhung part 83b positioned in the vicinity of the recess 88c and provided with a clearance K with respect to a transmission case surface 90c. The filter case 50 includes a case body 51 inserted into the recess 88c, a seal member 52 attached engagedly to an outer circumference of the case body 51, and for sealing a space between an outer circumferential face 51a of the case body inserted into the recess 88c and an inner face of the recess 88c, the first flange part (fixing flange part 53) projected from the case body outer circumferential face 51a, and fixed onto the surface 90c of the transmission case, and the second flange part (inserting flange part 54) projected from the case body outer circumferential face 51a and inserted into the clearance K.
