A load carrier for mounting rearwardly on a vehicle (1) includes a first frame section (6) which is substantially vertical, a second frame section (7) whose longitudinal direction extends substantially in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, carrier means (9) in communication with either frame section (6, 7) for carrying a load, and a number of belts which are disposed to clamp the load carrier against the vehicle. The first frame section (6) is, with a lower portion, supported on the bumper or fender of the vehicle. The second frame section (7) is, with a forward portion, supported on the vehicle. The frame sections (6, 7) are disposed to intersect one another in intersection regions and are there adjustably interconnectable to one another via a connection device (8). The connection device (8) is provided with spacers (19) which are located between adjacent portions (12, 16) of the frame section (7, 6, respectively). On opposite sides, the spacers (19) have recesses (26, 25, respectively) positionally aligning the frame sections. A clamping device (22) extends through adjacent portions of the frame sections, and also the spacer, for interuniting them.
