PURPOSE: A device for preventing over-cooling of the surface of continuous casting slab is provided to reduce the contact area between a vertical support roll and slab, thereby preventing over-cooling of a short-side portion of slab. CONSTITUTION: A device for preventing over-cooling of the surface of continuous casting slab comprises a mold in which molten metal is cooled so that the surface is solidified and a vertical support roll which is arranged under the mold and supports a short-side portion of slab passing through the mold. In the surface of the vertical support roll contacting slab, raised and depressed surfaces(10a,10b) are alternately arranged.
