Disclosed is a benzofuranone derivative of the pictured formula, or a racemate, enantiomer, diastereomer, acid addition salt, solvate, hydrate, or deuterated form thereof, where the substituents are as defined in the specification. Also disclosed is the use of the compound for inhibiting the PDE4 enzyme, and for treating respiratory or gastrointestinal disorders, inflammatory diseases of the joints, skin or eyes, cancers, diseases of the peripheral or central nervous system, respiratory or pulmonary diseases which are accompanied by increased mucus production, inflammation and/or obstructive diseases of the airways, COPD, chronic sinusitis, asthma, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, diseases of the peripheral or central nervous system or acute and chronic pain as well as injuries to the brain caused by stroke, hypoxia or craniocerebral trauma, diseases of the peripheral or central nervous system such as depression, bipolar or manic depression, acute and chronic anxiety states, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, acute and chronic multiple sclerosis. Also disclosed are intermediates useful in production of the above compound.
