Method for producing a support including a moulded gel layer having a particular hardness and hysteresis

A method for preparing a support apparatus with a gel layer (50) is disclosed. The method could be used to prepare a mattress or other like supports. The method has the steps of providing a mould (20), inserting a gel into the mould creating a gel layer (50) and affixing a cover layer (60) to the gel layer. A foam may be used as the cover layer (60) and may have a surface cavity for receiving the gel layer. The gel material has a hardness in the range of about 0.5 kPa to about 50 kPa when measured according to the method of ISO 3386-1 and exhibits a hysteresis of about 15% to about 80%.
