The invention allows an optimal selection of those parameters, which form the basis of stereophonic or pseudo-stereophonic signal generation. The user is given means to determine the degree of correlation, the domain of definition, the loudness, and additional parameters of the resulting signals from a psycho-acoustic standpoint, thus avoiding artifacts. By using the invention, highly efficient encoders and decoders can be constructed, which set audio signals designated for replay by way of two or more loudspeakers to a mono signal plus a few parameters. Concrete fields of application are telecommunications (hands-free equipment), global networks, computer systems, emitting and transmitting devices, particularly satellite transmitting devices, professional audio technology, television, film and radio broadcasting, and electronic consumer goods. |
