An upper mounting (1) is shaped as an inverted U and is placed with an upper fixed die over the wire to be straightened. A base (8) slides into the upper mounting (1) and includes a hydraulic jack (9,10) which raises a lower moving die (11) against the wire using guides to prevent rotation. The two dies have complementary profiles which include a curved central portion.
