The system has a wall-hanging heating device (3) comprising a feed line (4) selectively connected with a flow connection of a heating body (6) and/or to a buffer storage (2). A return port of the heating body is connected with a return line (5) of the heating device or with a line (9) to the buffer storage over a valve (7). The valve is formed as a controlled mixer, where a heating circuit medium of the return line flowing over a line (10) from the buffer storage is mixedly supplied with a heating circuit medium from the return port over the valve based on requirements. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a heating system.
