PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system capable of printing in an appropriate printing mode with minimum resources and avoiding the waste of expendables in a printing mode. SOLUTION: A workstation gives a cost reduction printing attribute showing the existence/absence of cost reduction printing designation to generated printing data and transmits it to a server. When the server receives the printing data to which cost reduction printing is designated, the server refers to provided characteristics (printing language, designated paper size, designated printing mode, one face/both-face printing, etc.), of the printing data, the information of a printer information management table and the information of the device state of a connection printer, and selects a printer which is suitable to print the printing data and also has the lowest printing cost (S222). When the selected printer is provided with plural printing modes (degrees of printing details) and is capable of suppressing the expenditure of expendables such as ink and toner by lowering the degree of printing details (S223), printing language conversion is executed (S224).
