PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine which can burn and remove a particulate matter in a lower temperature and shorter time as compared with a conventional one.SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine which is provided to an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine and equipped with a filter for catching particulate matter in exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, contains a catalyst carried by the filter and burning the particulate matter caught by the filter, and a liquid-spraying means for spraying at least one type of liquid selected from a group consisting of water, surfactant-containing aqueous solution, light oil and alcohol to the particulate matter captured by the filter. The catalyst contains at least one type of element selected from the group consisting of group II elements, group III elements, group VII elements, iron elements and group XI elements, and does not contain melting material. The combustion temperature of particulate matter by the catalyst is 600°C or lower in a state that liquid is not sprayed by the liquid-spraying means. |
