The shaft (10) has a gripping handle (13) made of plastic material and defined by a bottom pressing stop (11) and an intermediate brace (12) that is utilized for changing hands of an alpinist at a top part. An adjusting unit adjusts the brace along the shaft. The brace has a swiveling auxiliary lever (23) that is provided with an arcuate part (23a) forming a finger brace. The lever has a cam for blocking and unblocking the intermediate and finger braces in a predefined position along the shaft. The lever is inserted between two adjacent fingers (19a, 19b) of the intermediate brace.
