PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and surely identify and mark-display a marked person without increasing the processing load of a recognition processing. SOLUTION: In the monitoring apparatus, a video processing section 2 processes video images from a plurality of monitoring cameras 1 and displays the processed image on a display section 8. In this case, a marking section 4 applies marking to a person displayed on the display section 8 according to operations by an operation section 3, and when a marking information storage section 5 stores a feature quantity of the marked person, a person identification section 6 applies person identification discrimination to the person in the video images from the monitoring cameras 1 and the person in the marking information storage section 5 through a plurality of image recognition processes. In this case, a recognition processing limit section 7 applies switching control of the image recognition processes to the video images from a plurality of the cameras 1 to control avoidance of the recognition processing applied to the other camera video images when the mark display of the marked person is made, thereby suppressing the load of the image recognition processes.
