The control device 2 outputs a slow speed stopping notifying announce to a boarding port 1d and an alighting port 1e via loudspeakers 11f, 12f, 21f and 22f when confirming that an excessive loading state of the escalator 1 continues for a predetermined time. After this, the control device 2 stops a slow speed of travel of a step 4, and puts operation of the escalator 1 in a resting state.
