PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material composition having a high refractive index without causing improper forming and an optical element using the material composition.SOLUTION: The material composition includes: 5-50 mass% of inorganic component made of at least one chosen from metal alkoxide expressed by chemical formula (1): R1R2M(OR3), its hydrolysate, and polymer of the hydrolysate; 50-99 mass% of non-silicon organic component having a polymerizable functional group; and 0.05-5 mass% of polymerization initiator, and has a surface tension of 45 mN/m or less. In the formula: R1 and R2 are the same or different organic groups; R3 is a 1C-6C alkyl or aryl group; M is a metal element; a and b represent 0-2, respectively; metal element M has a valence m; and c=m-(a+b). |
