PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data map reading apparatus for carrying out operation by mapping using a high-speed memory, and to provide a data map reading method.SOLUTION: The data map reading apparatus 100 includes: a first storage means 15 for storing retrieval data 24; a reading means 23 for reading the retrieval data 24 in a uniform direction according to the address of the first storage means; a second storage means 13 for storing a duplicate of the retrieval data 24 read by the reading means; and a switching means 21 for switching a direction of reading the duplicate of the retrieval data 24 in a descending direction or an ascending direction of the addresses of the first storage means 15, according to an increment search or a decrement search made by a retrieval means 25 for retrieving the retrieval data 24 duplicated in the second storage means 13, based on a retrieved value xin.
