PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for surely detecting and monitoring contact (grinding strength) between a fiber processing card cloth with at least one grinding element in feeding and grinding. SOLUTION: The apparatus on a flat card or a roller card for grinding the fiber processing card cloth located on a roller or card flat, includes grinding equipment including at least one grinding element and an feeding device abutting on and positioning the grinding element against to the card cloth, wherein the feeding rate and the grinding force are detectable. To permit reliable detection and monitoring of the contact (grinding strength) between the at least one grinding element and the card cloth in a simple manner, a structure-borne noise sensor is associated with the grinding equipment and an electronic evaluator is capable of determining from the structure-borne noise the intensity of the contact between the at least one grinding element and the card cloth.
