PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing re-transfer of toner from an intermediate transfer body in a primary transfer part to an image carrier with simple constitution. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the image carrier 1 carrying toner; the intermediate transfer body 6 capable of being moved in contact with the image carrier 1; a primary transfer member 5 disposed in contact with the intermediate transfer body 6 at a position facing the image carrier 1 with the intermediate transfer body 6 in between and transferring the toner on the image carrier 1 to the intermediate transfer body 6 by the application of a voltage; and secondary transfer members 7a, 7b disposed in contact with the intermediate transfer body 6 and transferring the toner on the intermediate transfer body 6 to a transfer material P. The image forming apparatus includes constitution with electric rectification action between the primary transfer member 5 and a surface of the intermediate transfer body 6 brought into contact with the primary transfer member 5.
