<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lamp socket capable of preventing dropping of a lamp, and of intermittently lighting the lamp, and a luminaire using it. <P>SOLUTION: The lamp socket B is provided with a socket body 4, and a housing recessed part 5a for housing a base part 2 of the lamp A is formed on the front surface side of the socket body 4. On the sidewalls of the housing recessed part 5a, insertion grooves 5c for inserting projecting parts 2a formed on the base part 2 in inserting the base part 2 into the housing recessed part 5a are formed, and engaging grooves 5b for entering the projecting parts 2a therein, in response to the rotating operation of the base part 2 are formed communicating with the insertion grooves 5c. A lock spring 8 that locks with the inserted projecting part 2a is arranged in the insertion groove 5c, and a lock spring 7 that locks with the projecting part 2a that has entered the engaging groove 5b is arranged in the engaging groove 5b.
