The device has a steering control assembly (10) including a steering column (1) with a column shaft and including a steering lever (8) fixed at a lower end of the shaft. Movement of the lever defines a circle arc centered on an axis (ZZ') of a column wheel (4) rotates. A displacement angle of the lever corresponds to a steering lock angle of the column wheel. The movement is transmitted to a pivot (7) of a drive wheel (2) mounted on a steering train, by a connecting rod (16) whose two ends are respectively articulated on a free end (11) of the lever and on the pivot. The connecting rod is constituted by hinge type articulations.
