PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make more easily synchronous control of the drive of a drive motor for an image carrier, and that for a transfer roller that has a recessed part.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus has: an intermediate transfer belt 8 for carrying an image developed with liquid developer containing toner particles and carrier liquid; an intermediate transfer belt drive motor for driving the intermediate transfer belt 8; a secondary transfer roller 12 having the recessed part 14 in a peripheral surface, and transferring a toner image, which is carried on the intermediate transfer belt 8 in press contact with the intermediate transfer belt 8, to a transfer material 20 ; a secondary transfer roller drive motor 24 for driving the secondary transfer roller 12; an intermediate transfer belt position detecting device 29 for detecting the position of the intermediate transfer belt 8; and an encoder 27 for detecting the rotated position of the secondary transfer roller 12. |
