PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming technology for stably maintaining high image quality and high quality over a long period of time, regardless of variation of characteristics of a contact charging member caused by environmental conditions and manufacturing, etc.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an alternating voltage applying circuit which generates an alternating voltage to be applied to the charging member based on an input voltage value and applies the alternating voltage to the charging member; a first voltage detection circuit which detects a positive peak voltage of the alternating voltage to be applied to the charging member; a second voltage detection circuit which detects a negative peak voltage of the alternating voltage to be applied to the charging member; a voltage amplitude control unit controlling an amplitude value of the alternating voltage to be applied to the charging member, based on the positive peak voltage and the negative peak voltage; and an alternating voltage control circuit which detects the alternating voltage output from the alternating voltage applying means and controls the voltage value to be input to the alternating voltage applying circuit, so that the alternating voltage has a waveform having the amplitude value controlled by the voltage amplitude control means. |
