PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode catalyst for a fuel battery, in which the amount used of Group IV and Group V transition metals, which are active metals, is reduced to one-tenth or less as for conventional amounts of use.SOLUTION: In pores of a conductive porous carrier, an oxynitride containing at least one transition metal element selected from among a group of elements of Ta, Nb, Ti, and Zr is carried as a cluster of nanoparticles. By having formation and carrying of the transition metal oxynitride used as a catalyst component in a form of nanoparticles, active surfaces are drastically increased and the activity improved, reduction in the amount used of the Group IV and Group V transition metals is attained. |
