PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image retrieval system that can classify and search images based on meta-information such as landmark name or the like and improve the convenience of arrangement and search of images photographed by users.SOLUTION: The image retrieval system includes: a landmark information learning part 10 for building an information database related to landmarks; an image characteristic extraction part 112 for extracting characteristic information of an image with positional information input by a user's terminal; a photographing target landmark estimation part 111 for estimating landmark names included in the image with positional information input by the user's terminal; a meta-information giving part 113 for image classification for giving meta-information for image classification to the estimated landmark names; and an image database 115 for storing the images input by the user's terminal and the landmark name attached with the meta-information.
