METHOD OF AND APPARATUS FOR UPGRADING AND GASIFYING HEAVY HYDROCARBON FEEDS

An apparatus and method are presented for upgrading a heavy hydrocarbon feed, comprising: a first distillation column for receiving the heavy hydrocarbon feed and producing a first distillate fraction and a first non-distilled fraction; a solvent deasphalting unit for receiving the non-distilled fraction and producing a deasphalted oil stream and a first asphaltene stream; a thermal cracker for receiving the deasphalted oil stream and producing a thermally cracked product stream; a second distillation column for receiving the thermally cracked product stream and producing a second distillate fraction and a second non-distilled fraction; a further solvent deasphalting unit for receiving the second non-distilled fraction and producing a second deasphalted oil stream and a second asphaltene stream, the further solvent deasphalting unit connected to the first distillation column; and means for combining the first asphaltene stream and the second asphaltene stream. A Method and apparatus for producing sweet synthetic crude from a heavy hydrocarbon feed are also presented.
