PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress aggravation of visibility under differing environmental conditions.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal device (1) includes a first substrate (10), a second substrate (20); a liquid crystal layer (50); a first reflecting layer (81) provided in a first region of the first substrate and reflecting light made incident on the liquid crystal layer from the second substrate side; a second reflecting layer (82) provided in a second region of the second substrate and reflecting light made incident on the liquid crystal layer from the first substrate side; a first light diffusing layer (201) provided on the first substrate and diffusing light reflected by the second reflecting layer; and a second light diffusing layer (202) provided on the second substrate and diffusing light reflected by the first reflecting layer.
