Smoke alarm and method for testing whether the smoke openings are contaminated

The detector has two passages (6, 7) arranged in a partition (3), where one of the passages (7) connects two chambers (1, 2). A temporarily actuated fan (8) is arranged in the other passage. A total air flow is generatable through the latter passage using the fan, and is divided into a main air flow (H) through smoke through openings (4) and a secondary air flow (N) between the chambers through the passages. A sensor element (9) is provided in a region of the former passage. Strength of the secondary air flow is measurable depending on a throttling degree of the smoke through openings. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing contamination from smoke through openings of a smoke detector.
